A little homage to Negan from The Walking Dead. I'm a big fan of the show and thought this was the perfect opportunity for some modeling practice. I had the choice between early Lucille, Lucill with bullet hole or Lucille blooded and used, I chose a cleaner approach. Made with real time applications in mind, I set myself a tri budget of 40,000 for a AAA quality hero asset and I think this has come out superb. The barbed wire and bat body each consist of a 4K texture set with the pins holding down the barbed wire using a 2K texture (could probably get away with 1K). I tried to use procedural and hand drawn height maps inside Substance Painter for the wood grain to avoid complex wood grain sculpting in ZBrush. The Barbed wire was made by creating a 5 metre long straight section high poly in 3ds Max and baking that onto a low poly, then I used a spline to plot the path of the low poly barbed wire around the bat. The final renders were lit and rendered inside Marmoset Toolbag 3 and edited in Photoshop.
